Implementation of the RoHS / PB free guidelines of the EU:

The legislature of the European Union decided in February 2003 to implement two new guidelines, which affect especially the electronics and electro industry.

With the guideline 2002/95/EC "on the restriction of the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment (RoHS)" the European Union limits the use of dangerous substances in electronic and electro devices. From the 2006-06-01 on no electronic or electric devices can be imported into the European Union that contain one of the following materials (PB free guideline):

  • Lead and other metals (PB)
  • PBB
  • PBDE

The guideline 2002/96/EC "on waste electrical and electronic equipment  (WEEE)" manages the recycling instructions and possibilities for old electronic and electric devices. Affected by this rule are mainly the following products:

  • household devices
  • IT and communication devices
  • consumer electronics
  • lighting devices
  • electric and electronical tools
  • automatic output equipment

Currently some exceptions exist for several products, but in the course of time these exceptions will be adapted, too.

The guidelines are directed at all members of the European Union. They are binding for each country and are at present being transformed into national applicable law.

For the electronics and electric industry this means concretely that they have to manufacture their products PB free before the 2006-06-01.

AMEC as component supplier of this industry feels bound to offer its clients PB free products well timed before the 2006-06-01. Our asian suppliers have worked intensively on the implementation of this new guideline and have adapted their production processes accordingly. Already now the vast majority of them offers only PB free products.

Hereby AMEC guarantees that all of the distributed prodcuts correspond entirely to the new legal guidelines.

Here you find the complete guidelines for your information as PDF.
